Qazi Faiz Isa retired as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan yesterday, but it seems that political controversies may not leave him behind even after retirement.

Meanwhile, the members and workers associated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have announced to protest outside the Middle Temple.

Prominent PTI-affiliated social media activists are currently inviting Pakistanis in the UK to protest outside the Middle Temple on October 29.

What is the Middle Temple?

Yesterday, during his farewell reference speech, Justice (Retd) Qazi Faiz Isa mentioned Middle Temple Inn and said that his father had obtained his bar degree from the same institution in the UK and then he himself also studied at his father's. Following in his footsteps, he received his bar degree from Middle Temple.

He said, "I also studied for the bar from the same place (Middle Temple) which was chosen by my father." There are four Inns of Court, the name of the Middle Temple is less heard in Pakistan.

On this occasion, he also mentioned his daughter who is the third generation of this family to study at Middle Temple.

Justice (retired) Qazi Faiz Isa said that my daughter was the first woman of Balochistan who has studied bar from Middle Temple.

There are four Inns of Court in London, also known as the Professional Association of Brewers in England and Wales. These four Inns of Court include Grey's Inn, Lincoln's Inn, Inner Temple and Middle Temple.

After the retirement of Justice (retired) Qazi Faiz Isa, why is PTI protesting?

Differences between PTI and Justice (retd) Qazi Faiz Isa are not new and these differences started even before Qazi Faiz Isa became the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

It was during the PTI regime that a presidential reference was filed against Qazi Faiz Isa for non-disclosure of foreign assets.

The reference was dismissed by a 10-member bench of the Supreme Court, while seven judges of the same bench ordered the transfer of the property of Qazi Faiz Isa's wife (Sarina Isa) and her children to the FBR.

In one of her replies to the FBR, Qazi Faiz Isa's wife severely criticized the then Prime Minister Imran Khan and wrote, 'If you don't believe, ask Imran Khan and his like-minded group. How ownership of overseas properties is concealed.'

However, after being ousted from the Prime Minister's office due to the no-confidence motion, Imran Khan admitted to reporters that filing the reference against Qazi Faiz Isa was a 'mistake'.

In August 2023, Imran Khan was arrested in several cases one after the other and he is still imprisoned in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.

Ahead of this year's elections, the Election Commission of Pakistan declared PTI's intra-party election null and void and withdrew Imran Khan's election symbol 'bla' from his party.

The issue of PTI's intra-party election went to the Supreme Court where the Supreme Court upheld the Election Commission's decision.
